Carotid Doppler

Carotid artery ultrasound is a safe and painless procedure that Cardiology Associates of South Florida uses to check the blood flow in the carotid artery. Carotid artery ultrasound, also known as carotid Doppler, uses high-frequency sound waves to create images of the inside of the two large arteries in the neck. Arterial Doppler is useful in assessing the blood flow in the arteries in the arms or legs and looking for any blockages caused by plaque in the arteries.

These arteries can narrow due to atherosclerosis or other causes and obstruct blood flow, possibly leading to a transient ischemic attack (mini-stroke) or impaired cerebral circulation (stroke).
